Indiana Is Speeding to Bring Broadband to Every Hoosier

Hoosiers can rest easy knowing that their state broadband office is pulling out all the stops to ensure that every family and community in Indiana gets served with affordable, reliable, high-speed broadband. 

Though no one is 100 percent certain where the term “Hoosier” originated, one thing’s for sure – it certainly roles off the tongue much better than “Indianians” (which is technically also correct, but who would opt to use that over Hoosier?). Though less than 14 percent of the population of the Hoosier state lives in rural areas, in excess of 80 percent of the state’s area is devoted to farmland and forests. In fact, according to the USDA, Indiana ranks 8th in order of total agricultural output.

Ensuring that Hoosiers have access to the broadband they need goes beyond telehealth, distance learning, and the other familiar components of digital equity that many people in 2024 have become familiar with. For a state like Indiana, technologies powered by broadband that enable innovations like precision agriculture are equally important, as they increase a farmer’s efficiency, and enable them to do more with less.`
